This and That

It's taken 6 months, but my boys are finally bonding! I think Eli has just been waiting for Toby to do something! Besides cry, sleep, nurse, poop and wiggle. Now that Toby "plays," Eli gets down on the floor and brings him toys and hugs and tickles him. It gives this mama such a happy heart to see the bond forming right before my eyes.

Other sweet things going on that I want to put down in writing lest I forget them:
~Eli using a blanket tucked in the collar of his shirt as a cape. He in entering the super hero stage.
~The little noises Toby makes as I rock him to sleep. He's got his own little purr.
~Playing sleepy time with Eli as he puts me to bed in his room. I climb in his little bed and he "reads" me his favorite stories, Curious George, The Wiggles, Brown Bear Brown Bear, and Froggy Goes to Bed. Then he tucks me in by throwing the blanket haphazardly over my head (he's developed a habit of sleeping with his head buried under the covers). I ask him for a drink of water just to see what he'll do. He runs out of the room and comes back with a lidless sippy cup with just a tiny bit of water in it and insists I drink it. I do, reluctantly. Hoping that the water isn't from the toilet. I just love the look in his face when we play this little game.
~Watching Toby watch his big brother and how Eli is the "switch" that can turn Toby's wails into a huge beaming grin.
~Eli on his "motorcycle" that G.G. and Papa got him (stay tuned for pictures of that). It's his first tricycle and he is convinced it's a motorcycle. We tried correcting him, "no Eli it's a tricycle." But all that wild boy sees is a shiny red motorcycle.
~Savoring Toby's downy-like fuzzy head. I bury my lips and nose into his sweet hair when I rock him and he reminds me of a little duckling. I love being the mama duck to these little guys. Granted, there are many days when I'm sure I got my neck stretched out in front of me, wings flapping, feathers ruffled quacking up a storm for Eli to get off the t.v. stand, poop on the potty, clean up that mess in the kitchen and for Toby to stop using his first little tooth on me!

Ah, motherhood. It is hard hard work. But it comes with such sweet rewards.

BJ is going for a new hair style. It's in that "in-between" stage right now.

Carrots!
Happy "Half Birthday" Toby!
Eli and I had fun baking this cake together to celebrate the sweet 6 months of having Toby in our lives!
Do these boys have enough bath toys? ; )
Not sure why the water looks 10 shades of dingy...

Eli loves making music at bath time!
First time eating cereal.
He made all the faces that say, "What in the world is this!?"
But overall, he seemed to kinda like it.
Eli has been so sweet lately about sharing his toys!
Even his beloved tool sets.
They like to "fix it." as Eli sings the Bob the Builder theme song.
And just a side note: this tool set was supposed to be a birthday present for him. I had it hidden away upstairs. I was letting him play in the spare room (and watch a little t.v. I was desperate that day!) and left him for a few minutes. When I came back he had the tool set and the excited look on his face was just too much for me to resist as he begged me to open it. So he got it early and it has been one of the first toys he goes for when he wakes up!

Toby Bear

Yes, his skin is as luscious as it looks. : )

They Just Don't Make Stuff Like They Used to...

Eli and Toby got this really cool Made in the U.S.A. "vintage" Fisher Price cash register from G.G. and Papa this week! Eli absolutely loves it! It even came complete with all the coins! I totally remember playing with this same cash register when I was little!

I HAVE CLEAN TOILETS!!!

*jumping up and down*
I have clean toilets! I have clean toilets! I have CLEAN toilets!!!

Um, yeah. It's been awhile. They just haven't been on the top of my to-do list. I mean, they've gotten a spot cleaning here or there but let's just say that me and my old fashioned bristle-y toilet brush have never really got along. I was rummaging around in my cleaning supplies cabinet (which is behind lock and key) when I found THIS:

The Fresh Brush 2 in 1! I had totally forgotten I had this little gem hidden away in my cleaning cabinet. My dad bought it for me when he was here last... *ahem* when Toby was born.... He must have had a coupon or something. It was super easy to assemble even for my sleep deprived brain (Toby's been teething and pretty much attached to me 24/7 for the past week). What I love about this toilet brush is that the little dry pads clip into the end of it and then the toilet water activates the "scrubbing bubbles" When you are done you just release the pad and flush it! No dripping dirty toilet water through the house! It has a long angled handle which makes it so easy to really get under the rim! My toilets are so clean right now you could eat out of 'em (not that I am going to)!

So yeah, I just thought I'd share that while I'm sitting here holding Toby (again) and poking around online. It was the highlight of my Saturday night and makes for a great Valentine's Day gift for my hubby. Happy Valentine's Day honey!

Now back to our regularly scheduled blogging of adorable kiddos.
And no, SC Johnson is not paying me for this post! : )

Snow Coloring

Wow! This no t.v. thing hasn't been easy but we are surviving. Being stuck inside for days with the wintery weather hasn't helped. We managed to bundle up a few times to play in the snow. I've never been that good at coming up with fun things on the spot for Eli to do so I have a few books that are packed with ideas of things to do with little ones. I just got the Toddler's Busy Book (even though my "toddler" will be 3 next month making him an official pre-schooler...*tears*) and found this idea for dyeing your snow. All you need are some spray bottles with water and food coloring. Eli loved this activity! It kept him busy for like 30 minutes, which was amazing. We had the most colorful lawn in town!

This reminded me of The Snowy Day, which we have been reading A LOT lately. It was one of my most favorite books when I was little. Especially since I never saw major snow in real life until I was 19!

And here's Toby's latest accomplishment!

Toby is 5 Months Today!

Where is the time going? I cannot believe my littlest man is almost halfway through his first year! Time needs to slow down!

He is now 19 1/2 pounds and 27 inches long! He is still only nursing and we will be waiting another month to start cereal and purees. Although he is really starting to stare at our food!
It's been a rough couple weeks here as Eli had his first ear infection and Toby has a cough and congestion. Both boys seem to be on the mend now.

Eli has settled into his new routine of going to "school" 3 mornings a week. He just loves going! Today we drove past his school and when he saw it he started to cry because he wanted to go to school. About a week ago we decided that over the course of the past year we had been letting Eli spend way too much time in front of the television so we unplugged it and put it into storage! It was a bit tough at first, but we have seen some great benefits to not having it. Eli plays more, interacts with us more, is speaking better, sleeping through the night again, and even eating better. Today I did allow him to watch half an hour of nick jr. on the computer though. When we do bring the t.v. back we will enforce a one hour limit.

Christmas 2009

Finally had a chance to sort through all our Christmas pictures. Some of these are from Ashley's camera so thank you Ashley for sharing the ones you took with me.

We had a great time in Michigan. We couldn't have asked for better traveling conditions. We left the night before the big snow storm hit North Carolina. Both boys were great in the car...thank you God!

We got to see some wonderful old friends that we haven't seen in such a long time. We didn't get a chance to see everyone but we did what we could.

I pray that all of you were blessed this Christmas season and have the peace of Christ reigning in your hearts as we begin 2010. As Eli would say, "Merry Chris-Crims"
