Happy Halloween!

We donned our pirate outfits for another night of Halloween fun! The principal from SSLS and his wife invited us over to their house for some chili and also to trick or treat in their neighborhood. Eli had a blast! It's a good thing he took an extra long nap today. 

He got a hang of trick or treating real fast! We would ring a doorbell and if he could see inside the house he would squeal in delight when he saw someone walking to the door. He got even more excited if they had a dog and pretty much every house we went to had one! He seemed to really enjoy taking the candy and putting it into his pumpkin bucket himself. He also tried to go into a few houses...

We saw several families from church who happen to live in the neighborhood too. They all seemed to love seeing Eli in his pirate costume. After about 10 houses we went back to the Guelzow's to hang out and eat chili. Oh, and he only got frightened by one costume...Darth Vader! We are thankful to have had so much fun.

RIP Fuji Fine Pix

                                             

BJ and I had to get an early Christmas present for one another. Our little Fuji camera decided to finally go kaput. It was such a good little camera. It had it quirks but it still took good pictures. It had been acting funny for awhile and then last weekend after the Halloween party it finally gave out completely. These are the pictures and video off our new camera, Sony. He does a few more tricks than good ole Fuji. I guess it was time to upgrade. Merry early Christmas to us! And thanks Dad G. for passing down Fuji to us a couple Christmas's ago. He was a trusty companion. We'll be happy to send his remains to you if you'd like. 

Dear Uncle Brian, Aunt Amanda and Mackenzie,

Thank you so much for the box of Halloween goodies and cute card! I really like the books and I am totally into spoons and forks right now. Daddy kind of took over the woopy cushion though. Mommy is going to put a picture in the frame for me and she said it's "so cute!" 

I love you all and can't wait to play with Kenzie and meet my new cousin! I hope you all have a fun Halloween!

On Saturday night the three of us went to a Halloween party at Randall and Shannon's home. A costume was required attire for all to wear, but when I went to look at costumes I decided it would be much more affordable to just make our own costumes (minus Eli's because I had already bought his). So I got a roll of red duck tape and 2 white t-shirts for me and BJ and cut open 2 black t-shirts for the vests. The results look a little like "Where's Waldo?" but the pirate accessories from Dollar Tree helped a lot. 

The party was fun with some cool costumes. Eli got a little freaked out by one scary mask but had fun with all the kids. We all enjoyed the food too. 

Eli Meets an Author and State Dog

We and some friends of ours have been anticipating a special event at our library: A read aloud by the author of a really cool children's book. A couple months ago a sweet lady from our church who watches her grandson during the day told me about how her sister had written a children's book about a dog she rescued off the side of the road up in the mountains here in N.C. When she took the dog to the vet she found out that it is a rare breed, a Plott Hound, which happens to be the official state dog of North Carolina! The story is super cute...She fictionalized the beginning of the story about how Lucky the Plott Hound had gotten lost while out hunting for raccoons and then was hit by a car. She then picks up with the true events of how she and her husband found and rehabilitated the dog who had no collar. This is the first book written about our state dog and is a picture book geared toward 4th graders (which is the grade when state history is taught). The book is dedicated to Eli's friend Riley, who is the author's grand nephew. His mom got me an autographed copy of the book for Eli...complete with Lucky's paw print. In the pictures is also our friend Harley in the cute polka dotted dress. She kept saying, "Dog! Dog!" It was neat to get to see the actual dog that the story is about. He and the author were very friendly!

Eli loves his Boz and Boz books...especially the pumpkin one with the flaps. He's going to be way too cute in his "Donnie Darko" skeletal shirt too! Thank you so much.
